There is lots to see in Manali however the most visited spots in Manali is the Hadimba temple, Manu temple & old Manali and Solang valley and Rohtang Pass not to forget the Tibetan market and monateries in the mall road. Taxis or motorcycles will be necessary to move around and see the places near Manali. Motorcycles can be rented in Manali itself.
Hadimba temple and the pine forest around it is one of the major tourist attractions in Manali. Its one of the few temples where animal sacrifice is still in vogue. Being a major tourist attraction in Manali there are many stalls selling shawls and novelties near the temple. You can pose for photographs with Yaks rabbits and sheep here for a small fee!
There are three Tibetan monasteries in Manali which are well visited by tourists visiting Manali. Gadhan Thekchoking Gompa and the Himalayan Nyingamapa Gompa are located in Manali town.
Old Manali is about 5 Kms from Manali town. Old Manali is famous for the Manu Temple which is a small stone structure. There is a statue of 'Manu' the first man and a few musical instruments inside the temple. Old Manali is the starting points for a few treks especially the trek to Solang Nala from Old Manali the trail of which starts behind the Manu Temple. If you are looking for cheap accommodation in Manali you would be able to find many small lodges in Old Manali making Old Manali popular with backpackers.
Solang valley is on an off road on the Manali - Rohtang route about 15 Kms from Manali. Solang Nala is famous for the Anjani Mahadev temple which boasts of a natural ice Shivling. Parasailing and Zorbing makes Solang Valley a popular destination in Manali.
